As a kid who grew up in coastal India, nothing would fascinate me more than watching the sunset every Sunday by the beach. My classmates would always talk about how they wanted to spend their weekends endlessly watching WWE or cartoons but I didn’t echo their desire. I was always longing for that Sunday evening where my dad would drive us all to the beach. I absolutely loved building sandcastles as the sun slowly descended into the sea, giving away a beautiful orange glow.
I’d like to think that the beach shaped me as a person, in smaller and larger aspects. My favourite colour will always be orange. I will always be a person who wants to spend their weekends travelling even if life happened and I had to move to Bangalore for my higher education. I still take solo trips in and around Bangalore, to Mangalore, and to Mumbai. Balancing this side of my personality with the side that wants to ace my tests is hard, but I somehow take time off my busy schedule to make these trips happen. Today I’d like to share my experience in Mumbai and Mangalore. On first sight, these two cities have a lot of things in common. But I had two extremely contrasting experiences. MANGALORE- Travelling to Mangalore was a piece of cake because of its close proximity to Bangalore. I reached Mangalore at around 8:30 in the morning. After a quick breakfast at a typical South Indian restaurant near the bus station, I wasted no time in heading out to the beaches. Perhaps one factor I did not account for was the coastal heat. I was used to Bangalore’s cool climate by this point so when the 12 PM sun struck, I was melting in the heat. I then spent my afternoon getting a good lunch, the famous local ice-cream and then headed out to the beach to watch the sunset again.
One thing I did not account for in that trip was what I was going to do from the time the sunset occurred till my flight at 12:30 AM to Mumbai.
